Frankincense, also known as Boswellia sacra, is an evergreen tree in the Burseraceae family, native to the arid regions of North Africa and the Middle East. It is most famous for the precious aromatic resin it produces, known as incense, which has been used for thousands of years for spiritual, medicinal and cosmetic purposes.
